Which class should I take?

When we started DC Judo in 2008, everyone practiced in the same class. As the DC Judo community grew, we developed more and different classes that suit the needs of different parts of our community. The table below helps explain the different offerings so you can find what works for you. You can register for these classes online through our registration system.

If you are still not sure which class is right for you, come to the most convenient class and we will work it out with you!

Freestyle Judo: Mon 7-9/ Tue 6:30-8:30/Sat 11:30-1:30
Freestyle Judo represents an alternative competition format from the more universal IJF format. Freestyle Judo classes open the range of techniques to include gripping and throwing (like leg grabbing techniques) currently excluded from competition. It also includes an alternate scoring system that gives credit for guard passes, turnovers, and guard sweeps. Freestyle Judo places much greater emphasis on groundwork and is well suited to Jujitsu players wishing to explore a transition to Judo. See more about Freestyle Judo.

The lessons are designed for non-judoka and judoka alike and they are especially useful for those recovering from injury. These lessons are done without a gi using slow, careful movements to improve strength, balance, mobility, flexibility.
